Computing

Vision Statement

The vision of the Hornsea Burton and Skipsea federation is that all children develop the computational knowledge, skills and understanding required in order to safely and responsibly take their place in the diverse and evolving digital landscape of twenty first century Britain.

Intent Statement

It is our intent at Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation to deliver a Computing Curriculum to equip children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly driven by technology. It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, programme, analyse, exchange and present information and data.  We also recognize the importance of developing the skills necessary for children to use information and technology in a discerning and effective way.

The world of technology is advancing all the time and children are exposed more and more to the wonders of it. At Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation, we recognise the importance of technology and its expediential development. We aim to lay the foundations for an information technology filled future.  As well as the core computing curriculum, a range of devices and tools are used in all areas of the curriculum to maximise learning opportunities and motivate and inspire learners. IT is utilised across the full curriculum and the staff at Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation are embracing the use of technology as a tool to accelerate learning across at subjects. We are in the process of developing and updating our resources to allow us to access sources of information in many forms to aid historical enquiry, showcase our work in art and poetry, analyse performance in PE, listen to our music performances and much more.

The children have grown up in a world of computing and want to learn how to use the latest software. With this in mind, we encourage children to use the Internet safely, so each year children are reminded of how to use the internet safely and take part in an e-safety activities as part of their Computing curriculum.

Hornsea Burton and Skipsea Federation wants children to know more, remember more and understand more about computing and technology so they leave primary school as digitally literate individuals.  As a school we recognise that computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that pupils have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this.

The National Curriculum for Computing aims to ensure that all pupils;

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation

  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experiences of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems

  • Can evaluate and apply information technology (including new or unfamiliar technologies), to analytically solve problems

  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
